Owning our Personal Power
How does one learn to work with and not against personal power?
What does loss of power and powerlessness mean for us as individuals and what does it cost us in our lives?
The theme around power has been a big one on my path and I’ve explored it at depth, from many angles and perspectives. From a place of being wounded and from place of being empowered. From a place of loss of power and a place of taking power. From a place of wanting power to being deeply afraid of it.
Here are some of my musings around the central theme of power… Which takes me first to powerlessness.
When we are powerless we give away our sacred power and the right to birth who we truly & authentically are meant to be in this lifetime. When we are powerless we work directly against our personal power through our own cycle of disempowerment. This can be it in the form of persistent fears, self-sabotage, constant doubts, confusion, thinking errors, lack of confidence, low self-esteem, self-defeating attitudes and self-destructive behaviours. Our mind and energetic body continually looping us through disharmonious and disempowering narratives that keep us stuck and small and centred in our false created self.
I know what it feels like to be powerless. And I definitely know what it is like to be stuck in a defeatist negative attitude, where everything is perceived through the lens of negativity first. This is how trauma shaped my brain. I also know how frightened I have been of owning my power and claiming it, FULLY. We humans are more afraid of a full and big life than a life too small for us.
Yet if we are going to claim our gift’s we must first claim our power. For me this journey included dismantling my own trauma-based mindsets and untangling all the negative energetic projections I absorbed within my family structure, as the scapegoat and carrier of the family shadow. It required me to process and integrate the split off parts of my psyche and heal the traumatised reality I was stuck and frozen in, transforming the negative emotional states that held me energetically captive to the past, freeing me up to be in the present moment of now. No un-healed person is truly and effectively powerful, but a person who has been wounded and healed to the degree that they can own their self and their sovereign power, now that is a different story!
Coming into right relationship with power had me enquire deeply into my mind. All psychological theories must be pulled apart and examined. All false beliefs must be brought to the light of consciousness for evaluation and higher truth. Our energetic field must be illuminated due to the fact that energy has the power to override and dominate over rational thought. Energy attracts and energy repels. Inherited ancestral and cultural beliefs needed to be questioned and our capacity to think freely for ourselves needs to be strengthened if we want to find a path the wholeness. Recognising and resolving karmic conditions is also a factor on the path to claiming personal power, balancing the scales of any misuse of power and through grace, allowing the fruits of our good karma to ripen.
We need to believe in and have faith in a higher, more pristine and primordial power. We must have devotion to birthing this same aspect within ourselves. We must use this Divinity to mirror the same divinity within us. Not merely for the sake of ourselves, but for a higher cause and the sake of ALL beings.
We need to face the fiery eyed beast that is fear. Fear that projects a false reality that appears very real. Fear that can spin its own web of illusion and delusion and walks in the shadows of former realities. Fear that holds the spirit back from triumphing once again. Fear that paralyses and says ‘No don’t you even dare’. Fear that contracts and constricts the soul’s desire for growth. Fear that doesn’t know how to handle the Spirits fire and light. Even fear of how others at times will negatively respond to you claiming your personal power and light for they haven’t quite found their own just yet. Fear because you may even be ridiculed for this. Judged. Criticised. Whatever. Closing the door on people who want to dampen your power or secretly resent you for having power is part of the path of taking responsibility for owning your personal power. It’s knowing your allies and your enemies. Move along dear…
When we are powerless, we turn our back on destiny. Therefore, if we want to awaken to destiny we must awaken to power. We have to go through the processing of waking up to fulfil our dreams. We must re-birth ourselves and reclaim the spirit power that resides within each of us. This takes courage to face what this potent path dredges up for us. And boy does it bring stuff up!
We must be capable of accessing our multiple dimensional selves – the one self who functions within the flow of linear time, the other selves who function in the simultaneous realities of the just-as-real Dreamtime, journey and sacred time. When the dream-spirit-body is active and awakened, for me, as a shamanistic practitioner, the world of nature reflects this back as a divine mirror of my intent and action with such synchronicity and precision to affirm the other world reality and it’s power back to me. There is simply no way of explaining it, other than accepting the deep mystery and the work of great spirit.
Being powerful is knowing who you are and unburdening the psyche, soul and energy body of all that is not congruent with that. The one true compass is the light that arises in the compassionate and loving heart along with the mental illumination that brings forward our vision and purpose for being here.
Just because someone or something put you in a box, doesn’t mean you have to sit there. Just because someone did not acknowledge or see you properly doesn’t mean you can’t acknowledge and see yourself. Just because someone projects a reality onto you, doesn’t mean you have to own it.
It really is up to YOU
